Dilemma from a Tomboy

What is a Tomboy?

There are a lot of definitions for tomboy but the overall gist of it is this:

  • A girl who prefers more relaxed clothing, and activities, typically associated with boys.

I grew up being a huge tomboy, I didn’t wear jewelry, I was not a fan of makeup, and I was ESPECIALLY not fond of dresses.

The one time, in middle school, I attempted to wear a dress, I was told I looked ugly and fat in it. So, I tossed the dress and resorted back into my comfortable and relaxed, boyish clothes.

As I have gotten older I have realized that other people’s opinions don’t matter. What matters is that I myself feel beautiful and confident in whatever I am wearing.

I now own quite a few dresses and actually enjoy wearing them. My younger self would have laughed in my face if she saw me now.

One of the biggest reasons I have come to enjoy wearing dresses is because I have found my style. When I was younger nothing ever really caught my eye as being me. It has definitely been a process of trial and error but when I got that, Ah hah! moment, when I put on the dress that felt right and it made me feel beautiful and elegant, it was a game changer.

Taking things into a more serious topic, within the past five or six years I have noticed a change. A struggle for identity in young adults.

When I was younger, some people would make comments towards me like:

  • Are you a boy or a girl?

I shrugged them off and would snottily retort with, I’m a girl!

Today’s society is shifting, the term ‘tomboy’ has become altered and more of a gender stereotype.

If you are a female reading this, and like me, you prefer more relaxed, male orientated clothing, hear me when I say, your clothing choices do not determine your gender.

Do not let society push you in to believing you are a boy if you do not believe you are.

We fully support trans men and woman but for the people out there who are biologically born a female/or a male, and just simply enjoy wearing the style of clothing associated with a different gender, it’s okay!

Own who you are and your style choices, do not let our current society push you into self doubt and confusion if you already know who you are.

Stay true to yourselves and try new things.

Use me as an example as someone who for years wouldn’t take a second look at a dress, and now, I love the freedom of them.

Sending love to all kRazy kAtz out there, stay true to yourselves, and own it!

Keep it real fellow readers...till next time!
